Ranking all 61 Stephen King novels in 19 minutes or less!!!!!
I had been so frustrated with the book that I didn't even want to watch this video, and you're my go-to for King. But I'm glad I finally did. You put into words exactly how I felt. I actually love Holly and was looking forward to this but using her as his political mouth piece is just so frustrating. Still, there is one thing that stuck with me - his thoughts on poetry and what goes into it. I've started reading poetry again and I think about this all the time. He's such a good writer and I wish he would just focus on writing good stories and characters.
Thanks for your enthusiasm about this book. I remember you not liking Holly very much. I’m forgetting the other one you were disappointed in. I had been on Stephen King burnout for awhile after Fairytale. I did like The Institute though. I enjoyed Duma Key. I enjoyed being out of Maine for that one. Thanks, Jimmy Also, The Answer Man sounded like I had read something like that before. Sorry for the long comment😊
Danny coughlins bad dream kind of reminded me of season 1 of true detective
That was fun - I've never seen one of these before.
I forgot all about this one
@@jimmymango I enjoyed it!
Immediately gets in the hold queue at the library.
I really do appreciate your reviews. What I appreciate most is how authentic they feel, I don’t feel like I’m listening to somebody who is obligated to do a review, you’re doing it just because you want to, and that makes it a lot more authentic in my opinion. Also, I’ve screen grabbed your book reviews from the past for my record, and I have not been disappointed by any of them. I look forward to more of those coming out when you get the opportunity. One more sidenote, I like that you pick up some books based on their cover alone, and not knowing who the author is. Or at least, I’ve seen you do some of those in the past on your reviews, and I do the exact same thing sometimes at used book stores. I end up finding some authors that I really enjoyed just on the cover alone. So it might be fun to see you do more of those in the future.
Thanks for this feedback! I love judging a book by its cover…LOL It feels like a gamble. Which makes it interesting.
Will have to get around to reading this one. Sounds a good collection. Nearly got it the other day, but I gor The Institute instead. Really enjoying that. Great channel!
2 Jimmy videos in a few months!!
Loved this video! Can’t wait to read the book!
I remember reading where some of these stories were published before, but can't remember where, sorry! But great review, I'm with you on most of these stories. Stephen King story collections are my favorite King.
Currently reading your expanded dark tower reading list! I’m on the waste lands and the stand is now my favorite book!
Haven’t read this one yet. Super excited to see your review once I finish it!
That cover is super creepy. The collection was solid
Awesome video!!
Loved Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream and The Answer Man the most. The Answer Man gave me strong Revival vibes. I wish that one were also a full length novella like 'Coughlin's Bad Dream
Absolutely agree. It really was a fun one!
So far, im really enjoying this one! Im only a couple chapters into "Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream". "Willie the Weirdo" totally gave me classic King vibes! The twist (spoiler alert!) reminded me of one i cant remember atm, but it was when Grandma made a deal with an Eldritch Creature to have kids and then possessed the grandson. I reread Skeleton Crew like a year ago lol. Edit: the story is called "Gramma" lol
My favorites were definitely Willie the Weirdo and Danny Coughlin’s Bad Dream!!!
Still making my way through your dark tower expanded read 18/23. Enjoy your videos!
That makes me really happy to hear! I hope you’re enjoying the journey!
Best short story collection though...Different Seasons.
Just picked this up. Excited to watch your review after I finish reading it. Commenting to say thanks for posting this!
Great review. I haven't read this book yet, but it's on my list and I'm looking forward to it. I looked up "The Fifth Step" and it was originally published in 2020 in Harper's Magazine.
Thank you for this! That’s even more confusing for me now because I’ve never read Harper’s in my life.
@@jimmymango How about "Best Crime Stories of the Year" by Lee Child in 2021? Apparently it was published there as well.
@jessalexander71 I actually think when it was published by Harper’s there was a link online to read it for free. And I did that. That seems to ring a bell.
What is your favorite Stephen King book cover? I have yet to read it (soon!), but I really like the cover to Dreamcatcher. The mass market paperback of Bag Of Bones is awesome too. Also like the cover art of the hardback edition of Needful Things, which is my favorite King book. Glad to see you back!
That’s an interesting question. But I might have to say Needful Things as well. There’s something about that original cover that really draws you in.
Such a beautiful afterword. Nice job with the video! I just put this book on hold at the library. I'm reading IT now, my first Stephen King book. It's so funny I never read him... I read Camp Damascus last year and someone said Chuck Tingle writes like Stephen King. When I told her I'd never read him she was like "you have to!" Well here I am, and I'm not regretting a minute of it!
That’s great to hear!
thanks jimmy mango i have been wondering whether or not to pick this collection up i am spiderman i love the cover
Heck yeah
How do you take care of your books? Do you cover them with plastic film?
Some of them yes
Good afternoon. Could I interest you in a copy of "The Devil's Gunt" for review? It's about a male pornstar who's impregnated by the devil. Then he goes on the run, trying to get an abortion before the devil catches him. Please let me know when you have a moment.
Fantastic list! Love seeing McCammon get the love he deserves :) On that note: Have you considered reading his novel *Stinger?* I’m reading it right now and it’s very good! Probably the best alien novel I’ve read!
Glad yo see you back mate, I find you to be one of the most down to earth book RUclipsrs. You were missed!
An engulfing plot with moments of boring political opinions and commentary . It's classic king I give it a 3 out of 5 stars
It’s tradition to watch this video atleast once a month
I watched lock and key and I did not know that Joe King was the inspiration for it. I didn't even know Stephen King even had a son Thanks for the new information.
so thrilled to find someone else who loves the talisman!! still one of my favorite reads of all time
Superbe video
I agree. I've had enough of Holly. Also, another gripe is how unhealthily slim people eat in his books. They never cook proper meals. Just takeaways or terrible microwave meals
That’s an interesting take. I’ll have to pay attention to that. Thanks for the comment
@@jimmymango I enjoyed your review. Yes, I think you can always tell when he gets hungry while writing. He always describes food in detail
I read wizard and glass when I was a teenager and doing a reread of the series this year and can't wait to get to Wizard and Glass, I remember sobbing as a teenager and nostalgia just hits when I think about it.
You’re a lot like my dad, you went to the store for some milk and never came back. :(
Does The Stand take place between The Gunslinger and The Waste Lands?
I believe The Stand takes place on a different level of The Tower. Only remnants of it crossed over into Mid-World.
@jimmymango thanks for the quick response! I'm a little confused because Randall Flagg exists in the Stand and comes back in The Waste Lands and he dies in the Gunslinger. Like what is happening? The Waste Lands is the most recent book I read so if it's a spoiler I don't want to know it but if it isn't I would be really glad if you could explain this.
the source material for Kubrick's Shining is really the Apollo Moon missions
Very honest review 👏🏻 I’m agree with every point, and the way he organized the dates was very back and forth and messy, definitely not the best book from him
Best review I've watched so far my dude I completely agree man. The trump thing just felt weird and the book was just to political and agenda filed lol
Great to see you back Jimmy! Looking forward to more recommendations and your thoughts on You Like It Darker.
Found the video
Dude! Of course The Mist is #1 but Loangoliers, The Jaunt, and Mrs. Todd's Shortcut. RIGHT ON! My 4 faves.
"The Mangler" was made into a movie!
Elevation was just absolutely the stupidest story i’ve ever read. Just started the stand last week and its amazing!
Insomnia was so boring sry
"Gaunt and Pangborn never interacted until the final scene." See, I actually dislike this. Unfortunately this formula has been used in the last 3 or 4 King books that I've read. I just want a story where the protagonist and antagonist interact throughout the book.
I love Richard Laymon and your picks are very solid. The only one I didn't like out of these was The Lake, I just thought that the characters were dumb and made some awful decisions that made me sigh a lot, also the chef character was just ridiculous
I am 19 books in to your extended dark tower list. I am in heaven here. I dont even know which books i love the most. not that its a competition but. I guess maybe its helpful to mention that it came here to write this comment when you were holding up Insomnia. Man i love that book. Im rewatching your video because i misplaced my copy of your list. Also, i just finished Fairy Tales. I bought it at the airport. Theres no real, hard links between the dart tower and that book, but it still feels like the same universe. Actually, maybe there are a few links. For example there are Stephen king books in the FT universe. And there are some little bad guys who i swear felt like they came tumbling out of insomnia, though its been a few books since i read insomnia, king and otherwise.
Welcome back, Jimmy!
